Nintendo is working on a new console

Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that Nintendo are working on their next wave of console hardware, but the Wii U will remain their focus for at least the next year. It was also suggested that the next major Mario game will be released on new hardware.

"It seems like we've managed to do that this year and people are very happy with what we've done on Wii U. For the time being, our focus is on the Wii U hardware, but Nintendo as a whole has groups working on ideas for new hardware systems. While we're busy working on software for the Wii U, we have production lines that are working on ideas for what the next system might be."

"We're focused on providing a robust line-up of Wii U software for next year,"

We expect to hear more about Nintendo's next generation console at some point in the next year, this also is said at a time where AMD had boasted that they would be powering yet another console. Perhaps Nintendo will be the next console maker to go x86/ GCN with their consoles.

Any fans of Nintendo knows that this has been a good year for the Wii, with releases such as Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros and Beyonetta 2 releasing, barely any game issue's/bugs and with most of their games playing at 1080p/60FPS.

I'd say that at the moment the Wii U is the best console to buy if you already own a Gaming PC, as at present almost every good game on PS4 and Xbox One is available on PC and all the best games on the Wii U are not, making it the best console for a PC owner. I personally am looking forward to what Nintendo has in store for us.

What do you guys think of the Wii U as a PC Gamer? Are any of you looking forward to Nintendo's next console? Join the discussion on Nintendo's next generation and current consoles on the OC3D Forums.

I hate Nintendo and the special little bubble they have that protects them from criticism because 'muh nostalgia'. They only ever put out new IPs when they mess something up and milk existing IPs harder than EA. They've had too many 'get out of jail free cards' IMO.

They've got some nice games for the WiiU but its still goofy AF. I got it cheap so I can't complain too much.Quote

I am just sorry to see such a old maker as Nintendo do so bad now days in the gaming industry. I was a young boy when the nintendo came out and was a big fan for long. I hope the new console gives PS4 and xbone a run for their money..Quote

I don't think the Wii did bad at all. In fact, I thought it kicked some serious arse in the console arena when it first came out. Every fat parent in the world who had fat kids bought one of those. Quote

The Wii did do quite well. The Wii U on the other hand had a very slow start. It only recently took off with MK8 and Smash Bros.Quote
