Overclockers UK is all about hardware and performance. X99 which is still the current extreme platform dominates applications and gaming through 6-Core processing. Overclockers UK wanted to offer the high-end platform at a lower price than a new Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake system.

X99 is overall still the most current extreme platform, so this offering enables customers the option of getting their hands on a system without a big gap in the price.

X99 platform vs Skylake platform

• X99 supports quad channel, compared to Skylake's dual channel • X99 has more PCI-E lanes

• Skylake can be overclocked higher, however X99 is still the overall top performer

• The price is very similar

• Skylake performs better in single threaded gaming but X99 performs better in multi-threaded gaming.

• When it comes to rendering, physics, Photoshop or any creative work, X99 smashes Skylake out the water

Options added for Skylake system to be equivalent specification:

• Intel Core i7-6700K
• 16GB 2400MHz Memory
• 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM Hard Drive

Nice to see them putting in a SuperFlower psu in to those barebone kits most places just toss in cheap units.Quote

I've never liked the idea that the huge multicore systems were the way to go for 'creative programs'. A number of the ones I use/build systems for depend highly on single core/thread speed in the modeling/viewport process, where I assume skylake would actually pull ahead until the render button was hit.Quote

I like how all the benchmark results in the article are multi-threaded ones

Give them some real game benchmarks and not these over-inflated "20 cores will give you a better benchmark score" ones.Quote

I will stick with my 5820k x99 based rig, I don't consider Skylake an upgrade but more of a downgrade!Quote

Was speaking to 8 pack on OCUK and he reckons that all recently made 5820k can easily do 4.2ghz on a basic air cooler.

Not good news for Skylake really.Quote
