Sick of RGB, tempered glass, and futuristic case designs? Overclockers UK has a PC range for you
We should all be familiar with reboots by now, be it in the form of remade or remastered gaming classics or a new beginning for beloved films or TV shows. In the PC market, things have gone a strange direction in recent years, with tempered glass panels and RGB lighting becoming common additions to a wide range of components. While many love these additions, others hate them, and that gave Overclockers UK an idea. What if we rebooted the PC market?
Presenting the Overclockers UK ReBoot series of PCs, systems with modern components and classic styling. Beautiful beige boxes, thick square monitors, and chunky webcams. Modern PCs with a 90s look.
With their Reboot series components, Overclockers UK has launched their Kolink Y2K PC case, the OCUK 15-inch 4K Cuboid monitor, and their new Streamplify HYPE CAM "Y2K Edition". Give your PC that 90s look with these new components.
Yes, this is an April Fools Joke
Yes, yes. This is Overclockers UK's annual April Fools day joke. The 90s have not returned in the 2020s. As much nostalgia as many of us feel for 90s gaming hardware, we must admit that classic style PC cases wouldn't work well with modern components.
Back in the 90s, cooling was not a major consideration when building a PC. Components did not draw much power, and systems thermals were therefore easy to manage. Could you imagine trying to keep an RTX 3090 Ti cool in a 90s style beige box? Back in the 90s, graphics card's didn't even need heatsinks. In 2022 we now have graphics cards that are more then four PCIe slots thick!
As much as we love the idea of a 90s PC with all modern hardware, it simply wouldn't work that well. There is a reason why no modern PC case looks like a 90s beige box. That said, I'd love to see somebody mod a 90s case to fit a modern gaming PC inside (and keep it cool).
