Replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 catches fire on an aeroplane

It has been reported that a replacement, post-recall, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has caught fire in a passenger aircraft in the US, causing the plane to be evacuated before take-off.  The aircraft was due to fly

The aircraft was due to fly from Louisville, Kentucky to Baltimore, Maryland, with the evacuation taking place shortly after the mobile phone started smoking while it was turned off and not charging.

The mobile phone was owned by a man called Brian Green, who purchased a post-recall model which was certified as "safe" by Samsung after the initial launch of the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung says that they are currently looking into reports that new devices are still overheating.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a warning to the public that Galaxy note 7 devices must be powered off and not charged while on aircraft, requesting that users also do not pack the phone into their hold luggage.

This Galaxy Note 7 burned through the carpet of the aircraft and came to rest on the metal subfloor of the plane, causing no major damage to the aircraft. At this time it is unknown if this faulty phone was an unlucky incident or part of a wider issue that is still present in modern Galaxy Note 7 phones.

Now it seems that the Galaxy Note 7 will never shift it's reputation as an "exploding phone".
