Valve's VR Headset has been Revealed
We have known that Valve has been working on a VR headset for some time, but now Valve has finally made a lot of information about the headset public ahead of GDC next week.
We know that Steam's VR device will be know as the Vive and it will be made by HTC, a short trailer for the device is available below. The device will be available to developers from Spring 2015 and to the public from Holiday 2015. The device will use two 1200x1080 displays, which HTC say will cover your full field of vision and will refresh with a a framerate of 90 frames per second.
"HTC’s Vive headset, powered by SteamVR, pulls those virtual worlds off your computer screen and into your home. You’ll experience sights and sounds vivid and lifelike enough to transport you to another place, another time—whole new realities with limitless possibilities."
The headset will also include a gyrosensor, accelerometer and a laser position sensor as well as a "Steam VR base station" which will allow you to control your avatar's movements by physically moving around your room.
We will undoubtedly learn a lot more about this device during GDC this week, so expect to hear more about Valve's VR headset as we learn more.
