Virgin Media may be doubling their UK broadband speeds

Virgin Media UK's broadband customers are now receiving a new letter which is informing them that the company is planning to begin a roll-out of new Broadband speed boosts starting this October.

This roll-out will be boost Virgin Media's already high broadband speeds to all new levels, with a new maximum speed of 300Mbps, since Virgin Media usually doubles their speeds every upgrade.  Please note that these speed upgrades have always been free to consumers using Virgin's existing broadband packages.

Speed Upgrade (T&C’s)

We will start the upgrade programme on 1 October which will offer a free upgrade to our base. This will roll out to 90% by the end of 2015 and the remaining will be completed in early 2016. As an area of the network is upgraded we will write to all of our customers in that area letting them know that their upgrade is ready and all they need to do to accept the upgrade is log on to their account online to confirm and we will then increase their speed.

By writing to them we are not forcing the upgrade upon them and if they want to stay as they are they can. If they decide not to take it at that time then the customer is able to log into their online account to take the upgrade at any time before the program is completed in 2016.

We already know that Virgin Media has been trial testing 300Mbps speeds in certain areas, so it is definitely looking like Virgin Media will be doubling their highest speeds yet again.

As usual many people are asking why such high speeds are necessary and hope that the company continues to expand their network to more areas and improve their reliability, rather than continuously upgrading their existing network.

These upgrades will begin to roll-out on October and should be completed in early 2016.

I've been trying to persuade the missus that we need to upgrade for a while now, looks like I may not have to anymore.

Though 300Mbps would be very nice.

I might have to keep trying to get her to agree to upgrade after all.Quote
