Roccat Kave XTD 5.1 Analog Headset Review

Introduction

One of the facets to the Roccat arsenal that we've often lauded here at OC3D is their exceptional ability to get things right the first time. Rather than a billion different minor variants they tend to have one that does something well and that's an end of it. That doesn't appear to be the case with the Roccat Kave headset.

When it first appeared it was a stunning combination of build and sound quality. Since then we've seen a Kave 5.1 XTD, a Kave XTD Stereo, and today we return to where it all began with the Kave XTD 5.1 Analog.

If you read our review of the Kave 5.1 XTD then much of this will be familiar, as the Kave XTD 5.1 Analog is identical except for the lack of an inbuilt soundcard and a return to the multiple jack method of connectivity.

Technical Specifications

Headset specifications are fairly standard across every one we've ever tested, with a 20-20 frequency response. What affects the sound the most is the driver size, and the Kave XTD Analog is sporting 40mm drivers. Impressive considering this is a genuine 5.1 headset. At 335g the redesigned Kave is much lighter than the original 5.1 we tested. Helpful if comfort is your primary concern.
