SteelSeries Arctis 7P Wireless Playstation 5 Headset

SteelSeries Arctis 7P Wireless Playstation 5 Headset

Although we're just reviewing the Arctis 7P here the Xbox compatible Arctis 7X is identical in features including backwards compatibility with the Xbox One. Thus, colour aside, all of this is applicable to both Arctis 7 models.

The SteelSeries Arctis Pro was one of our favourite headsets we've reviewed in recent years and the Arctis 7P continues the audio excellence SteelSeries for which are famed. From the famous Siberia to today, SteelSeries are good with all their peripherals but their audio solutions are particularly good.

The Arctis 7P grabs your attention straight away with a box which has been designed to emphasise the whiteness of the Playstation 5 and the clear white of the headset itself. It's an eye-catching design all around and one that looks spectacular in the flesh. The clarity of the white plastic shows how far white plastics have come in recent years, and against the black of the ear pieces and headband it's a bold look. Connectivity is exceptional with enough cables and compatibility options to work on pretty much anything from the unreleased Playstation 5 through PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC and even any mobile device with either a 3.5mm jack port or USB Type-C port.

Looks only take you so far though. Comfort is exceptional too. The Arctis 7P is much lighter than you might expect a rechargeable, wireless headset to be and what little weight there is in the hand all disappears when you place it on your head. The ski goggle style headband does a spectacular job of taking the pressure off the top of your head and is elasticated enough to fit even the most misshaped skull. The ear pieces are both deep and have thick foam to ensure that all the sound is directed into your ears rather than bleeding out to the surrounding air, yet are also breathable enough that your ears remain cool even during lengthy gaming sessions.

Having a headset which can plug into anything and is comfortable enough that you'll want to wear for hours - and indeed can wear for hours thanks to a battery life of well over 24 hours, we registered 26 hours from full charge to flat - is one thing, but it needs to also sound good. Thankfully the famed Arctis audio quality is delivered in spades with the newest addition to their range too. The sound is focussed without being head-pounding, and yet there is an airy quality thanks to those deep ear cups that also doesn't leak any sound out so that you have to crank the volume just to hear things. Getting a closed back headset to sound both tight and yet spacious is a very difficult balancing act and one SteelSeries have managed with aplomb. Bass is pumping, the midrange is broad and the top end high and glassy without ever sounding brittle. Frequency separation is excellent too, allowing everything in the mix to come through with clarity and not get lost amongst overly dominant elements.

The SteelSeries 7P looks gorgeous, can be connected to almost everything, gives a genuine 24 hour+ run time and has outstanding audio quality, both from the microphone and drivers. Available for £159.99 it wins our OC3D Enthusiast Award. Brilliant.
