A PSU with an integrated display? - Cooler Master is making their own PSUs
Most PSU manufacturers use OEMs to construct their power supplies, bespoke manufacturers that are willing to build units to the specifications of their partners. These partners will ask for a PSU with pre-defined specifications, an OEM will construct it, and the brand in question will slap their brand stickers on it and call it a day. Some manufacturers will exert a more fine-grained control when it comes to component selection than others, but more often than not, the brand label on the box does not manufacture most power supplies
Cooler Master has decided to start building their own power supplies, taking full control of their design, manufacturing process, component selection and feature set. In time, the company hopes to surpass their former partners.
To start off Cooler Master's power supply revolution, the company has designed their new XG series of PSUs, which also integrate an LCD display into the side of the unit to deliver vital statistics and other important information to users. We hope that Cooler Master can make this screen brighter in the future, as at the Computex event hall, it could be difficult to see what was on display, a factor what would re-emerge in cases with smoked/darkened windows.
What has been shown at Computex is a prototype, a unit which can supply 750W of power and offers an 80+ Gold level of efficiency, though Cooler Master has assured us that Platinum efficiency rated PSUs and higher wattage units will become available in the future.
