We were so used to the red ROG boxes with black accents that when they first flipped that colour scheme it was a shock. Now it seems so obvious as it makes the silver text stand out better, and the gloss black vs matte black gives a great design without necessarily being to in-your-face about it.

We know how important the ROG branding is to some people, so having a GPU stand that has the right name on it might almost be enough to sway particularly extreme brand snobs towards this particular model in the ROG range.

Anything that saves us trying to dig out our old optical drive just to get some network drivers installed so we can download the rest from the website is going to score highly in our books. The ability to format it and get a free ROG branded USB stick is secondary.

This is the first PCIe 5.0 M.2 card we’ve seen. Perfect if you really want to maximise your storage speed without the limitations of PCI Express 4.0 NVMe solutions. Limitations being a very relative term, naturally.

This feels like those photos you see of enormous packaging with tiny contents. We know why there is only a single PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot in here, but it does seem strange to have such a huge card for a single slot.

We’d be really interested in hearing what you think about ASUS commitment to the ‘made of LED dots’ logos they’ve been using recently. Do you prefer it to their regular ROG Eye? We understand it’s their design philosophy right now, and you can see that in the way the VRM heatsink lights up. We’d prefer something that wasn’t more pixellated than a 2009 Youtube video.
