ASUS ROG Strix Z490-E Gaming Review

ASUS ROG Strix Z490-E Preview

Introduction

So far in our reviews of the Z490 we’ve looked at the three flagship models from the main manufacturers and found them to be almost inseparable in performance. Perfect if you want to stick to a particular brand or just prefer the looks of one over the other.

What if, like us, your budget is more limited than those big price items? Enter the ROG Strix range.

The Strix range has been incredibly popular since its launch. Although there was a little bit of growing pains whilst ASUS decided how much they wanted to go down the path of making everything look like an owl, since they adopted this gaming focussed design, leaning heavily on the RGB world, it has been nothing but success. If you look at most people’s forum signature, or wherever the kids show off their system specs these days, you’ll see a Strix product more often than you won’t.

With the Z490 proving reliable in performance we were naturally curious as to whether the latest addition to the Strix range continues its excellent showing and if dropping down the price range has an effect on anything other than how many LAN sockets there are. Let’s find out.

Cooling

We know that some of you prefer to glance at the fan headers and move on to the results, which makes our efforts at showing you the motherboard in detail feel wasted, but in case you’re short of time here are the main fan headers on the Strix-E.
