ASUS TUF Gaming X570 Plus WiFi Review

ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wi-Fi Review

Introduction

Please note this review was written prior to the AGESA 1201 BIOS update. Our graphs have been updated to reflect the new results, but the text remains the same as the fast single threaded stock performance affects so few of our results and none of our overall opinion.

Such has been the revolution brought to the AMD range by the Zen 2 architecture and X570 chipset the platform has seen a relatively big increase in pricing when compared to the AMD models of old. The needs of the PCI Express 4.0 design are costly but, as we have discovered in our reviews, certainly worth the expense. The difference between the 32GB/s bandwidth of the PCI Express 3.0 and the 64GB/s bandwidth afforded to us by the PCI Express 4.0 specification are like night and day, especially when it comes to NVMe storage.

Thus we’re aware that a fair number of you have been cautious about getting on the X570 bandwagon due to the increased entry price. What we need is a motherboard which brings the majority of the benefits of the X570 platform with great build quality and a trusted name but at a cost that is more in keeping with the AMD motherboards of yore.

Enter the latest entrant into the famous ASUS TUF range of motherboards, the TUF Gaming X570-Plus Wi-Fi. Sporting all the elements of the X570 chipset with the legendary build quality of the ASUS TUF range it promises to deliver reliable performance but without causing your bank manager to rub their hands with glee. Naturally as we’ve already tested the performance of a wide range of X570 motherboards across the whole price spectrum we had to discover how the TUF Plus stacked up against both its stablemates as well as the contenders from the other manufacturers.

Technical Specifications

Despite a price point just north of £200 the ASUS TUF Plus still has everything you would hope to find on a modern motherboard. There is a good range of USB 3.2 headers in all forms from Gen1 and Gen2 through Type-A and Type-C. Type-C hasn’t quite taken over the market yet but as more and more of our smart devices adopt it as their connection method it wont be long before it is the only option available and the days of your USB connectors going in the third way up are consigned to the history books. Elsewhere we have two PCI Express 4.0 M.2 sockets alongside two PCIe x16 slots. Those of you with a motley collection of drives will appreciate the 8 SATA 3.0 ports, whilst network connectivity is handled by the ASUS exclusive Realtek L8200A LAN replacing the Intel version found on most X570 motherboards, whilst the Intel WiFi 6 takes care of the wireless requirements. With ASUS addressable headers and AURA RGB LED strip headers the TUF has a big feature set despite its low pricing. Let’s look at it in more detail.
