Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Review

Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro Review

Introduction

It’s been a while since we reviewed a Gigabyte motherboard here at OC3D.

To those of you who are new to the site, or perhaps new to the world of hardware reviews, let us give you a brief bit of background. A peek behind the curtain so to speak. Companies send us their products, we review them, we tell you what we think about them for good or ill so that you, the people we exist to serve, can make informed purchasing choices. Occasionally how good a manufacturer thinks their product is and how good we think it is are at polar opposites. Whereas lesser sites might smudge the truth or even outright lie so as to keep in with the companies which supply their gear, we always hold our integrity and our userbase above all things and thus will give you the warts and all version. After all, if we claim everything is “100% amazing” then nothing is.

Manufacturers naturally think all their products are the best around, and thus being told it isn’t can ruffle a few feathers. This is especially the case if the other less scrupulous sites aren’t telling the whole truth then it appears we’re being overly critical, even if we aren’t. But the thing we want most of all is that you, the readers, have all the facts necessary to make an informed buying decision. However, we have no ‘horse in the race’. No axes to grind. In an ideal world everyone’s products are brilliant, because quality creates competition and that drives down prices and we can all own better systems without fearing we’re buying a pig in a poke.

All of which lengthy pre-amble should explain why it’s been a little while since we’ve had a Gigabyte motherboard on the site, and also why this particular motherboard, the Z390 Aorus Pro, came off our credit card via Amazon. We want to test everything and let the chips fall where they may, and this might involve buying it ourselves. Which we’ve done here, particularly as we hear on the grapevine that the power phase design has seen wholesale changes and really brought the Aorus in line with the competition.
