Intel 6950X 6900K 6850K CPU Review

Test Setup

Intel 6950X, 6900K, 6850K
Asus X99-A II
2800MHz Corsair LPX
3200MHz Gskill TridentZ
3200MHz Corsair LPX
3200MHz Corsair ROG Platinum
3600MHz Dominator Platinum
nVidia GTX980
Corsair RM1000i
Corsair Neutron GTX
Corsair H110i GT
Windows 10

Memory

We have run multiple sets of memory to test the CPU's, we did experience some QVL issues giving us lower than expected scores with the Gskill kit and not allowing us to boot the Corsair 3600MHz kit at all (no matter what the speed we set it to) but we are sure this is just some glitches with the early BIOS we were using. In the end the 2800MHz LPX kit was used as our stock test kit with only XMP enabled in the BIOS and the 3200MHz Dominator Platinum ROG kit was the basis of our overclocked benches.

Once we have a more stable BIOS we will be back to run some faster kits again and really push the capabilities of the CPU's because as you will see we don't think we have found their limits yet.

total fail intel looking other sites test review shows 6800-6950 +2% sometimes -1-2% performance vs 3930-5930K and this after 4 years , and the 6950X would be good for 1000-1100$ max. Meaning you getting the same performance that was in 2012 =)Quote

Nice review, although I'm quite happy with my 5930K boosting to 4.0 GHz on 1.017 volts Quote

I think i'd just rather get something like the the E5 2680v4 for about £100 more, as that is effectively its closest price competitor. Anyone buying the Broadwell E for anything other than compute reasons is clearly doing it for exorbitant e-peen reasons, not logical reasoning.Quote
