Introduction

Information about the latest Intel motherboards and chipsets is somewhat thin on the ground at the moment, but we know that you’re as eager as we are to at least catch a glimpse of the new products. So when two brown boxes arrived in the office containing MSI motherboards we wanted to get them photographed and beamed into your eyeballs at the earliest opportunity.

The Z590 launch, with what fragments we do know, reminds us of the Z370/Z390 days in which it’s more of a refinement of what’s come before instead of something entirely new. Given how well rounded the Z490 motherboards were it’s not a massive shock that these will be basically Z490s with PCI Express 4.0 and a few minor tweaks. We know how stupidly fast the PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives are from our experience on the AMD X570 platform, so adding that speed to the smooth Intel underpinnings should lead to a lot of fun and games.

We’re limited by NDA so can’t tell you that much, and because these are very pre-release and so haven’t even got official boxes then our normal trick of showing you the back of the box and pretending we didn’t isn’t available to us, so this will be a quick overview of the two MSI Z590 motherboards. We’ll start with the Z590 Gaming Carbon WiFi before looking at the MEG Ace.

Eyes down for a full house.

Up Close – Overview

Before we get into as much detail as we can glean, let’s show you the overview of them both so you can see how they look. The Carbon has a strange trail effect on the logos, whilst the Ace is a bit more of a no-nonsense board. Both are still deep into the all-black aesthetic that’s such a part of modern motherboard looks.
