Test Setup and Clock Speeds

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Roundup Review

Test Setup

We're mainly comparing the RX 6700 XT to the RTX 3060 Ti which is also aimed at the 1440 brigade, although naturally we're including a few other cards above and below it to give you an idea of what you're getting for your money.

AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
Gigabyte RX 6700 XT Gaming OC 12G
XFX RX 6700 XT 319 MERC
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X
ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Formula
Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB Series DDR4 3600MHz
Corsair RM1000i PSU
Corsair iCUE H150i RGB Pro XT AIO
Corsair MP600 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD
Corsiar Obsidian 500D RGB SE
Windows 10 x64 "May 2020" Update

Clock Speeds

The downside to any extremely new product is GPUz takes a moment to catch up. Our average clock speed runs show not only what we roughly expected - the Gigabyte and AMD cards perform similarly whilst the XFX is a little ahead - but also how insanely high the newest addition to the RDNA2 architecture can go. Averaging over 2.5 GHz on the GPU?! Madness. We like it.

This is a meagre jump from the 5700XT. With that price increase, it's really nothing special. It's an improvement in performance-per-watt, which is impressive given it's the same process node, but that's about it. If I could choose between a 3060Ti or 3070 over a 6700XT, I'd choose the Nvidia card. They're just as efficient, have the same performance per dollar, have more consistent drivers, and most importantly offer far more software features. I get why AMD are charging so much for these, but they're not worth the money IMO. The 6700XT is a £350 GPU, maybe £375 because of the nice VRAM buffer, but that's it. Terrible RT, no DLSS, inferior streaming software.Quote

I wonder if these will have mysterious 'blackout' issues too. Not sure if those plague the 6800XT, but some of us with 6900XTs are having blackout problems, very strange stuff. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen to anyone buying the 6700/6800s, it's a maddening issue, wouldn't wish it on anyone!Quote
