Your first glimpse of the redesigned Strix. Not only is the card different but the box has eschewed the RGB ROG Eye logo that is so familiar.

The sharp creases and holes that so defined the old Strix GPUs is nowhere to be seen. Instead the RTX 4090 has a more uniform shroud, and had gained a little colour in the form of some red and blue. This is echoed in the lighting as we’ll see below.

The backplate shows what attention to detail you get with a Republic of Gamers product. Bold ROG logo and even the ROG Eye carefully carved into the airflow vent. The back – the bit you see the most – almost looks nicer than the front.

With three and a half slots width the Strix is not for the faint of case. ASUS have retained the standard Nvidia PCI Express power connector, and moved all the RGB lighting to the right hand edge. Although the Republic Of Gamers logo itself also lights up.

The bottom is just as carefully designed as the top, with lots of space for those triple fans to push any warm air away from the card and keep those temperatures nice and low. A job they do well as our testing will show.

We’d have expected a triple tag bracket for the kind of money that a ROG product retails for, but that disappointment is lessened by the addition of an extra HDMI port above and beyond the one you get with the standard RTX 4090 cards.

The Strix is built so well that there is no GPU droop to speak of, but we know some people are obsessive about such things so ASUS supply a small ROG-branded card stand to help you sleep at night.
