MSI GTX960 Gaming Review

Test Setup

MSI GTX960 Gaming
Intel Core i7-4960X @ 4.4GHz
ASUS Rampage IV Extreme
Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133
Corsair AX1500i
Corsair Neutron GTX
Corsair H100i
Windows 7 x64

Overclocking

The MSI Gaming comes with a decent speed out of the box, although 40MHz below the stock speed of the Strix. On the other hand it overclocks very well and the nVidia GPU Boost pushes things even further up to a whopping 1526MHz. We should definitely see a decent performance increase from our overclock. One point to mention we noticed was with our sample at least it really didnt like being overvolted, so yes this was at stock volts. If the voltage on this card was adjusted it just became unstable, a strange thing by any sense but maybe a point that will help to stop the forums going nuts about people wanting to RMA.

Too anemic in VRAM, and lots of older cards compare to it favorably in metrics that actually matter. For a new card, stretching to that 970 will make for a better bet.Quote

I love the looks of the MSI cards. I'd love to see what two would do in SLI.

Thanks for the review.Quote

My problem with the GTX 960 is that they are only a hundred or so dollars cheaper then the GTX 970 here in Australia. Why would I pay $350-$400 for a 960 when I can pick up a 970 for $450-$550? The 970 is miles ahead in performance and within the same power draw as the 960, i.e. if your powersupply can handle having a 960 in your computer then a 970 will be fine...Quote
