MSI PS341WU Prestige 5K2K Monitor Review

Introduction

Welcome. The world may have currently been put on hold but there are still the odd bits of hardware filtering through that give us a chance to step away from trying to vacuum the lawn or iron the carpet and get back to a semblence of normality. We hope that you are all doing well, especially those of you on the list of ‘not allowed out until June’. It’s rough, but we’ll all get through it together, as long as the politicians don’t keep putting stock portfolios above lives.

Many of you might be working from home. If the modern world has one thing to offer with its incredible level of connectivity it’s the ability to do a lot of our work digitally. Demonstrating that the massive commute is a hangover from a different time, and that actually more of us can work whilst still around our families than our bosses might believed possible. What if you’re also an avid gamer and want the ability to play whilst also having your video conferencing app open? Or perhaps you’re a creator and, as anyone who has done a lot of editing will attest, there is no limit to how much space would improve your productivity.

Enter the MSI PS341WU Prestige 5K2K monitor. One of the main themes of a lot of larger format displays is the move away from 16:9 and into the world of the ultra wide, and the PS341WU continues to tread this path with a 34″ display at a staggering 5120×2160 resolution, giving you 1280×2160 of extra space beyond a 4K display. As we’ll see on the next page though, you’re not remotely limited to this split of your display. Instead the PS341WU can be arrange in a multitude of ways if you have the hardware to keep it sated. Let’s take a look.

Technical Specifications

5K @ 60Hz, with HDR600 support on an IPS panel seems like the stuff of science fiction only a few short years ago. The speed at which monitor panel technology has lept onwards is staggering. We’ve barely got used to 4K and that’s already getting quickly consigned to history with the addition of 8K panels, HDR and the like.
