MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z Review

MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z Review

Introduction

The RTX 2060 has proven to be a runaway success since its launch not so long ago. When we first reviewed it we mentioned how nVidia had put all their efforts into producing a card which worked well at that most popular resolution, 1920×1080, and got a lot of feedback questioning whether this really is the resolution used by the majority of people. Naturally if you want as much proof of this as it’s possible to obtain then the Steam hardware survey is unquestionably the most accurate place to go and the gap between 1080P and any other resolution is so enormous that it’s a clear winner.

The high sales figures of the RTX 2060 reflect both this popular gaming resolution as well as the kind of price that the majority of people can afford for their gaming systems. However much we might crave a RTX 2080Ti or similar graphics card, the price of the high end cards recently has become prohibitively expensive for anyone who isn’t the managing director of a company or a stock broker in The City. The RTX 2060 hits the price and performance sweet spot, and any time something hits both of these elements out of the park then you can be sure that the sales will follow. It’s not rocket science.

MSI have long been champions of the fast graphics card with their various models from the Lightning downwards, and their Twin Frozr cooler is regularly amongst the most successful designs in testing. Combine MSIs latest iteration of the Twin Frozr to the excellent RTX 2060 PCB and, in the form of the MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z, we have a card that promises to be hugely popular.

Technical Specifications

The MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z has the same factory boost clock of 1830 MHz that we saw on the other partner cards, namely the EVGA XC Ultra and the ASUS Strix. We know how well those both performed so hopes are high for the MSI.
