Up Close With Size Comparison
The size of the heatsink is enormous. Bristling with heat pipes and all the fins. To quote the meme, "Hey MSI, how big do you want the heatsink to be?"; "Yes".
As always you have a choice between maximum performance and slightly less performance for quietness. And, as always, we'll be leaving it in Gaming mode. Why would you buy a card at this price point and then nerf it?
Since they were first introduced, all cards now sport a cutout on the backplate for airflow reasons. The MSI has a more 'designer' version which speaks about their confidence on how well the fan and heatsink combo will tame the cards temperatures.
As is common amongst the three RTX 4090s we've reviewed so far, the MSI Suprim X uses a single HDMI alongside three DisplayPorts. No Type-C connectors to be found.
If you aren't convinced by how huge the the Suprim X RTX 4090 is, here is it next to the largest Suprim X of the last generation. Yes, this new card is massive. Enormous. The kind of card you could fit a family of five beneath. Which is handy because you'll need to sell your children to afford it.

So this performs on par with the FE, roughly, losing in a lot of instances(unless the labels on some of the graphs are wrong?), draws more power and runs at a higher temperature and costs at least £200 more than the FE. was it at least quieter?
Now you see why EVGA has pulled out of Nvidia cards |
Yeah, it seems that gone are the days where it actually makes sense to buy an AIB partner card. They're more expensive and are not much better in cooling.

The issue for many of us not living in the UK/US is actually managing to get our hands on an FE card. I would have to import it direct from Nvidia and then pay 36% tax on it
