Nvidia GTX980 Maxwell Review

Image Quality and the Future

nVidia GTX980 Maxwell Review

The Future

The majority of the features highlighted by nVidia are things that we, as end users, can't experience yet. However, two things are clear. Firstly that the PC is definitely the gaming platform of the future. We all know this anyway, such is the pace of development. The second thing is that voxels are coming back in a big way. In the late 90s with titles such as Outcast and Command and Conquer, voxels were everywhere. Polygons took over but now the graphics accelerators have caught up. It could make for some very beautiful games indeed.

Image Quality

The GTX980 utilises extra performance on titles that are less demanding to greatly increase the rendered resolution and then dynamically scale it back to your display resolution to provide higher fidelity. If you're one of those people who think that wont make a difference, let us point you towards these Dark Souls examples. Not so dismissive now are you.

Just skimming through the numbers on this awesome review it looks like 780 Ti owners are going to have to wait for something truly epic.
Apart from the energy efficiency the differences between the 780 Ti and 980 are miniscule.Quote

Rly this is nothing spectacular at all. For something that draws so little power I was expect the temps to be much better then they are currently and performance wise this gets edged out by the R9 290x and 780ti a lot.Quote
