PNY GTX980Ti XLR8 OC Review

Introduction

A raft of GTX980Ti's have passed through the OC3D offices in recent times with all the big names making variants of the best performing GPU currently available.

If you're not a dedicated follow of the hardware world you might be looking at this review and thinking "who?". In which case let us enlighten you as to why this is a big deal. PNY are celebrating their 30th year this year as manufacturers of almost everything hardware related you can think of. Rather than being a gigantic corporation in the Far East, PNY are a gigantic corporation in the USA. Given how vital Silicon Valley has been to our passion it's nice to know that not every job has been outsourced.

The model we have up for review today is the XLR8 OC. PNY have been producing seriously overclocked graphics cards, and other hardware, under the XLR8 moniker for years, so it's nice to see that trend continuing with the most modern card around, the GTX980Ti.

Technical Specifications

With any graphics card the only bits we're really interested in are the size of the GDDR5 memory and the raw speed. With the nVidia GPU Boost 2.0 technology somewhat lessening the impact of an 'out of the box' overclock, it's still nice to know that the GPU isn't a speed-binned option because a factory overclock requires a certain amount of inherent performance.
