Controls

PlayStation Now is effectively a PS3 streaming to your home, which means that traditional PC mouse and Keyboard controls are a big no no.

A mouse can be used to control the menus of the PlayStation Now app, but a controller is an optimal way to do most things. Both PS4 controllers and X-input controllers are supported, but X-input controller users will need to account for the fact that they will lack the ability to use the PlayStation button and will need to your their keyboard’s escape key as an alternative.

While streaming games the controls are fairly responsive considering the fact that the game is streamed, making even fast paced fighting games playable. The experience was very similar to using Steam In-Home Streaming or Streaming using a Nvidia Shield device.

X-Input controllers

While I have had a great experience using a traditional Xbox 360 pad not all X-Input controllers are officially supported, meaning that some 3rd party controllers may have issues when using this service.

In a future version of the PlayStation Now application for PC sony should provide the option to remap their controls to their desired controller, as users should be able to remap buttons like the PlayStation button to whatever they wish.

On the first boot of the application 3rd party controllers will not function properly, but after attempting to start a game the above messages appeared, which then allowed 3rd party controllers to function.
