XFX Radeon Magnetic Air Review

Up Close – Mercury RX 7900 XTX

The XFX RX 7900 XTX is only available in black. If you want a white model the Magnetic Air range tops out at the excellent RX 7900 GRE. The XFX RX 7900 XTX Mercury looks very similar to the white model we saw on the previous page. However, by virtue of this being the flagship Radeon card you get three 100mm fans. No reduction in centre fan dimensions.

Out of the box the fans are found in a foam holder. Try saying that three times fast. With all three Xs being on the right we wonder if the fans are put in the foam first and then marked with the sticker, or if the machine that fits the fans into the foam has ‘eyes’.

With the fans in place the XFX Magnetic Air XTX card reminds us of the first gaming cards. The red and black aesthetic is timeless. It looked good on 50s hot rods, Star Wars and it looks good here.

The RX 7900 XTX needs more power than the 7800 XT and so you have three 8pin PCIe connectors demanding power here. Still, check out that fin density. It’s incredible. Certainly we expect good results in our thermal tests.

The back is black enough that if you’re feeling creative you could express yourself on the XFX Mercury Magnetic Air without needing to remove anything first.

Is it most reminding us of Tron? Automan? Knight Rider? Are we just showing our age?

Those of you who like a little extra reassurance will be pleased to note all the XFX Magnetic Air cards have a GPU support included.
