Test Setup and Clock Speeds

XFX Speedster RX 6800 XT MERC319 Review

Test Setup

We're still using our revamped test rig for the Radeon testing. We know that some of the more nit-picky of you might wonder why we're not also using the 5000 series Ryzen CPUs to make the most of the Rage mode, but Rage mode works on the Ryzen 9 3950X just fine, and we want to be able to compare like for like as always, and the 3950X is what we've tested everything else in our graphs on. Given that most people don't run CPUs as powerful as this, putting an even more powerful one in won't teach us anything nor help you in your decision making.

XFX Speedster RX 6800 XT MERC 319
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X
ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Formula
Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB Series DDR4 3600MHz
Corsair RM1000i PSU
Corsair iCUE H150i RGB Pro XT AIO
Corsair MP600 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD
Corsiar Obsidian 500D RGB SE
Windows 10 x64 "May 2020" Update

Clock Speeds

We're not sure we'll ever get used to cards which break the 2 GHz barrier without even thinking about it, but certainly if you're a big fan of raw clock speed then the XFX RDNA 2 cards are the way forwards.

If you want to push the performance further than the already ludicrous speeds available out of the box then it's easy to do with the XFX. We'll see the benefits of this in our Gears 5 and synthetic benchmarks.

And they're so expensive. I didn't think there would be such a high premium over reference. They perform better, but I don't know if I would want to shell out another £100 for that extra bit of performance.Quote

Of course you would. It has White on it

I actually like this one which is weird considering the Merc sprawling across it is not my usual cup of tea.Quote
