Cougar C700M Evo Mouse Review

Introduction

With the introduction of the 700M mouse, Cougar really made their mark in the market. Often a product reflects a company ethos and becomes their signature design, and with the 700M that was definitely the case for Cougar. It had a high specification wrapped up in a design which gave the user a comfortable, flexible experience whilst also looking like little else on the market.

The mouse market is a curious juxtaposition between stagnant and flexible. It stagnates – to a small degree – in the same way all peripherals do because their shape is limited by the design of human beings. Yes there have been the odd design which has been tempted to stray away from established shapes and ergonomics, but almost never with any degree of success. However, it is also an extremely flexible market as new games dominate the world and have their own requirements – more buttons, fewer buttons etc – and the speed at which sensor technology has evolved.

Enter the Cougar 700M Evo, unsurprisingly an evolution of their hugely successful mouse which manages to stake a place of its own with a unique design that stands apart from the crowd without inhibiting the usability and comfort of it. With a new beefed up sensor and some fine tweaks to the layout, let’s take a look and see if it’s still as successful as ever.

Technical Specifications

It always makes us smile to think how recently every mouse on the market at the high gaming end used the Avago laser sensors and then PixArt appeared with a refreshed range of optical sensors that were so clearly more accurate and just better than now you struggle to find a mouse that isn’t equipped with a sensor from the Taiwanese company.
