Steelseries Apex M750 Gaming Keyboard Review

If you've been following along with our peripheral reviews you'll know that there is definitely a trend with all high end keyboards to go for a full set of Cherry MX switches. Whilst lighting, extra keys, features and the like might change depending upon each manufacturer the switches that form the heart of the keyboard have always remained a constant, and that is the Cherry MX model.

Steelseries have been producers of some of the finest keyboards since OC3D have existed. Indeed one of our first reviews was the Steelseries 7G keyboard, a beefy piece of kit that will probably be the only thing alongside cockroaches to survive the apocalypse - assuming of course that someone doesn't step in between the two idiots currently shouting at each other across the Pacific Ocean.

There have been plenty of other models in the Steelseries keyboard range between then and now, some more successful than others but all of them have come with a sense of quality and a design decision that leans towards doing something different rather than following the norm.

With that in mind the key decision relating to the Apex M750 is the choice to eschew Cherry MX switches and instead go with their own design of 45cN pressure, 2mm distance speedy switches that have a linear feedback profile. We'll get into more detail there as we move through today's review, but it takes a brave and confident company to sidestep convention and do something unique. Steelseries are hardly a new company trying to make their mark so they must have a lot of faith in the enhanced experience these switches bring, so let's get on with trying them out.
