Thermaltake Argent K5 Speed Review

Introduction

Any time a manufacturer releases a new series of products you can be certain that they need to contain two things; a mouse and a keyboard. Equally if you’re going to produce a new keyboard then comfortably the safest route and the route that makes the most sense is to base it around the famous Cherry MX switches. Not only do you get a world class level of reliability and typing feel, but you can take full advantage of the many customisation options using an industry standard allows.

Thermaltake have done the sensible thing with the Argent K5 by using Cherry MX switches, and in particular the Speed version. If you’re unfamiliar then the Cherry MX Speed have the same actuation pressure as their popular red models – 45cN – allied to an extremely short actuation distance. If you’ve ever worried that your muscle memory is too used to the short throw of laptop style keyboards to ever adapt to the full mechanical options, then the Cherry MX Speed will surprise and delight with how little you actually need to depress the key to get it to actuate.

With USB pass through, a 3.5mm audio pass through and full RGB lighting the Thermaltake Argent K5 offers many things you might expect from a mechanical keyboard, but it also has a few tricks of its own up it’s sleeves.
