When we opened the box of NZXT’s new C1500 Platinum power supply, we found a neat purple bag of cables and a power supply that is protected by a fabric bag and a large amount of foam. You can be sure that this PSU will not be damaged in transit, even if your postie is clumsy or heavy-handed.

We are modders at heart here at OC3D. That’s why one of the first things we noticed about this PSU is that its fan shroud is removable. Better still, its screws are not blocked by any “warranty void if removed” stickers. This allows users to replace this shroud with something custom, or maybe even paint this PSU’s stock shroud a custom colour.

We are not sure if NZXT would fulfil the warranty of a PSU with a custom painted fan shroud, but it is nice to see that NZXT have given modders an option here. Maybe this addition wasn’t intentional, but we love it nonetheless.

How long is the NZXT C1500 Platinum?

Like most high wattage PSUs, this 1500W monster PSU is longer than a standard ATX power supply. The ATX standard length for a PSU is 140mm. This PSU is 180mm long. This needs to be taken into account when selecting your PC case, as you will need space to fit both this PSU and its connected cables.

Note that if we have this PSU in a “fan facing up” configuration, that its branding is upside down. This is not a major issue, as most PC cases now use a PSU shroud, making this branding invisible to most users.

Power Outputs

Like all PCIe 5.1 power supplies, the C1500 features 12V-2×6 power connectors instead of 12VHPWR connectors. These new power connectors feature an improved design that ensures that connected cables needs to be fully seated to be utilised. This PSU features two of these 12V-2×6 power connectors.

CPU-wise, this PSU ships with one 8-pin CPU power cable and one 4+4-pin CPU power cable. This should be able to deliver enough power for any consumer-grade PC motherboard. This PSU also has multiple inputs for PCIe power cables, and sata/molex power cables.

This high wattage PSU is powered using a 3-pin C19 power cable, not a standard C13 (kettle lead) power connector. This cable comes supplied with this PSU, and is larger in size than standard C13 PSU power inputs.

All of this PSU’s cables come pre-sleeved with a nylon braid. All of these cables match and use all-black cables and connectors.

Below we have the C1500’s two 12V-2×6 power cables, both of which are rated at 600 watts. These cables perfectly match this PSU’s other sleeved cables. Given their use of standard 12V-2×6 power connectors on both ends, these cables can be easily replaced with custom 12V-2×6 cables from companies like CableMod and other custom cable providers.
