Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 PC Performance Review and Settings Guide

4K – This game runs surprisingly well at 4K

It isn’t often that a modern game runs this well at 4K at maxed out settings, even with modern graphics cards. For Nvidia graphics cards, DLSS can do a lot of heavy lifting here, though GPUs like Nvidia’s RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti can deliver average framerate of 60 FPS or higher. Here, 1st percentile framerates are low because Modern Warfare’s high particle quality setting is simply too demanding. Setting this option to low will dramatically increase Modern Warfare 2’s minimum framerates and give average framerates a notable boost too. If we are honest, this setting shouldn’t be as demanding as it is, and most PC gamers should set this option to low, especially at a high resolution like 4K.

With DLSS, FSR 1.0, and the performance tweaks that we have noted on page 3, most PC gamers with RTX 3060 and above or RX 5700 XT or above GPU hardware can achieve framerates of over 60 FPS at reconstructed 4K resolutions with the right graphics settings.

VRAM-wise, Modern Warfare 2’s extreme preset demands graphics cards that have 10GB of VRAM or over to run the game without texture issues. If you do not have enough VRAM, lower Modern Warfare 2’s texture or streaming settings. If you don’t the game will cut down texture detail for you and give you worse visual results.
