Civilization VI PC Performance Review

Launch day performance VS Fall update performance

Before looking into the impact of DirectX 12 we first need to take another look at the game's DirectX 11 performance, which has had a surprisingly large boost since we tested the game on launch day.

This boost in game performance is due to new driver releases from both AMD and Nvidia as well as some optimisations that have been made to the game since launch, increasing the game's minimum framerate post-patch to levels that are close to our average framerate on launch day.

This data was taken from actual gameplay using the same level and benchmark run that we used on launch day, so we know that Firaxis didn't just change aspects of the built-in benchmark tool to achieve these performance gains.

Impressive all around though. Improved DX11 massively and introduced DX12 at the same time. DX12 is in beta, but it's only going to get better. So good job to them on that.

Performance from the 960 and 380 is still very impressive and shows how good this optimization is.Quote
