1080p Performance Tested - Extreme Preset

If the benchmark results below tell us anything, it's that Forza Horizon 5's Extreme preset is taxing, especially on older graphics cards. This is especially true for pre-Turing Nvidia hardware and pre-RDNA AMD hardware. In general, modern AMD graphics cards are bested by their Nvidia Geforce equivalents.

With Nvidia's RTX 2060 graphics card, VRAM issues were apparent at Extreme settings at 1080p, 1440p and 4K resolutions, resulting in performance issues. Setting Forza Horizon 5's texture settings to Ultra addressed these issues, resulting in much better performance.

For most of the graphics cards below, stable performance can be achieved by using Forza Horizon 5's High preset. That said, older graphics cards like AMD's RX 480 and Nvidia's GTX 1060 require medium settings to achieve solid framerates above 60 FPS in most situations. The good news is that Forza Horizon 5 is scalable enough to support most modern gaming PCs.

Forza Horizon 5 may be more graphically taxing than its predecessor, but it is also much better looking at its highest graphical settings. Playground Games has worked to utilise the hardware within modern PCs and Xbox Series X, resulting in great visual results.

Impressive benchmarking. Definite competition for Steve from Hardware Unboxed.

I got to admit I didn't read much of the text (just looked at the benchmarks), but this typo caught my eye: "moving from extreme settings too high settings" on page 9.Quote

I think i'd enjoy the game but i have a lot left to do in FH4 and tbh FH5 might as well just be a reskin of FH4 it's so similar it's just in a diifferent place tbh, but the lego content and general fun of the game is good just for me doesn't seem worth getting FH5 maybe by FH10 they might have changed it enough to warrant the buy.Quote

I don't really see the point in sticking to FH4, though I'm somewhat biased since I'm sick of so many events in the old game. Mexican roads seem to have a lot of sweeping medium-high speed corners, which I really love.

And yeah it's an absolutely gargantuan game, of course there's a lot of rehashed models, mechanics and so forth - and I'm not a fan of the 60€ asking price for base edition. But game pass is a cracking deal.Quote

This is the first Horizon game I haven't bought as soon as possible. There's loads of content, but most of it is starting to get aimed at a different target audience to me. The focus on online gameplay, the larger than life, OTT approach to everything, handing out so many cars for free with no sense of working up through the ranks.

It's the only open world racing series in town with decent physics, so I'll likely get it eventually, but I'd really like Solar Crown to come along and do a more grounded and progressive take on it, kinda like Horizon 1 was. I'f they gave me Horizon 1 updated with the new modification system, and map tech I'd be all over it like a rash.Quote
