Hogwarts Legacy PC Performance Review & Settings Guide

4K - Yes, this game is CPU limited at 4K

Hogwarts Legacy is a game whose PC version is defined by two traits. Those are VRAM limitations and CPU limitations. At 4K our RTX 4090 is not able to push far past the RTX 3080 Ti thanks to this game's CPU limits, requiring DLSS Frame Generation to achieve ultra high framerates.

For GPUs like Nvidia's RTX 3080 Ti or AMD's RX 6800 XT, FSR 2 or DLSS can be used to deliver stable 60+ FPS framerates on PC. Though it is worth noting that GPUs with less than 16GB of VRAM will need high textures or lower to avoid framerate dips.

With AMD's RX 6700 XT, setting Hogwarts Legacy to High and using FSR 2.0 in balanced mode will keep the game above 60 FPS in most instances, delivering pleasing visual results and a stable framerate. The same is true for Nvidia's RTX 3070 Ti, albeit with lower texture settings thanks to its smaller 8GB frame buffer.

How are you able to measure fps? Are you using an external tool like Fraps?Quote

Great work on this, OC3D team. First game to see a real benefit of using DLSS3.Quote

Very good work. Very throughout and detailed.

It's nice to find a game that really pushes hardware.

I am interested to see if AMDs 3D cache CPUs will significantly benefit this game since they will be able to store far more data on die rather than constantly fetch from memory.Quote

From what I've read a fair few people even with a 4090 are still seeing GPU usage dipping down to 80% which means DLSS3 isn't working like it should.Quote
