ASUS USB 3.1 Performance Review

Anvil MB/s

ASUS Z97-A USB 3.1

We have two tests in our graphs. One with Turbo Off, which is the USB 3.0 standard, and one with Turbo On, which brings the full weight of the 10Gb/s USB 3.1 standard to bear. We don't expect this to make much difference in anything but the fastest sequential tests, but that's what we're here to discover.

Anvil MB/s

Sure enough our first test in Anvil demonstrates how this is an increase in headroom, with the 4K tests being identical, and only when you hit the 128KB block size does the USB 3.1 provide a benefit. The sequential test really shows how much extra bandwidth is available.

IMO i think its a smart move to put USB 3.1 on a lower end board, to see how it sells and if it sells good then they might put it onto the ROG boards.

Rather amazing. I loved how even with turbo off, nearly the whole time it was still faster than any sata 3 alternative. Then turning it on was not even close. Though i'm sure with the maturity of the actual drives and sticks themselves progresses we should see more consistent and overall speed increases.Quote
