Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB NVMe M.2 Review

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB NVMe M.2 Review

Introduction

Back in February we reviewed the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB drive and found it combined excellent performance with the single most important element for any M.2 drive, low pricing.

When the M.2 drives first appeared they were eye-wateringly expensive and this meant that there was a lot of scope for manufacturers to produce a variety of models to ensure they suited every pocket. As the technology has matured the pricing has plummeted and those big gaps between types have narrowed considerably.

Because of that tightening of the gap between the top and bottom models the EVO Plus takes advantage of its 96 layer V-NAND and revised firmware to become the most attractive option in the hugely attractive Samsung range. Having already covered the primary updates in our 1TB review, let’s see if the larger capacity brings better rounded performance figures to the table and thus becomes the standard by which all other M.2 drives shall be judged. After all, £444 for a 2TB M.2 was unthinkable 12 months ago when the original Samsung of this capacity was nearing £800.
