MSI Aegis 3 8th Gen System Review

MSI Aegis 3 8th Gen System Review

Introduction

So often when receiving pre-configured systems we end up with behemoths that give the full “I have a massive gaming rig” effect, whilst being somewhat difficult to place if your options are limited.

With the world’s financial state being what it is, we’re pretty sure that most of us live in accommodation that is smaller than we might wish, and thus space is at a premium. Wouldn’t it be great, therefore, if you could buy a system which delivered all the performance you’d require, but could be picked up with one hand and tucked away in even the smallest corner?

Enter the MSI Aegis 3.

This is a particularly small case, but bearing a full range of gaming hardware and flashy accoutrements. Of course we are here to find out if this commitment to compact casing causes component consternation, or if the MSI Aegis 3 is a delicious dynamic device. Let’s run down the build specifications before we get on to a closer look, and of course the all-important testing.

Technical Specifications

The Aegis 3 is based around the Intel B360 chipset installed in about the smallest case we’ve ever seen for a non-HTPC chassis. Small form factor doesn’t mean that the hardware is lacking though, as we have an Intel Core i7-8700 CPU, MSI GTX 1070Ti graphics, 16GB of 2400 MHz DDR4, speedy storage and Intel Optane memory that will be used to boost the speed of the data drive. About the only area the specifications appear lacking is the power supply being both small and only Bronze certified, although as you’ll see on the next page the area it can fit in probably necessitates that choice.
