MSI GT73VR Titan SLI Gaming Laptop review

There was a really concerted effort in recent years by all the major hardware manufacturers to increase the efficiency of their products. Whereas once everything was sacrificed on the altar of headline grabbing performance figures, in these enlightened times we'd like to save the literal planet whilst we use our gaming avatar to save a fictitious one.

By producing hardware which was much more frugal than that which came before we've had the side effect of massively increasing the capabilities of a gaming laptop. Whilst once the idea of a gaming laptop was one that could run Freecell without slowing to a crawl, nowadays as console hardware has reintroduced the concept of working to a tight performance limit and the aforementioned hardware has rapidly escalated in performance, we expect our gaming laptops to get darn close to the capabilities of our desktops.

MSI have been up with the forefront of this movement to produce serious gaming contenders and the latest in their long line is the GT73VR Titan. A GTX 1070 SLI system based around the i7-7820HK. How does it fare?

Technical Specifications

There are a few options you can tinker with in the specifications. Our review sample was equipped with Windows 10 Pro and the 17.3" 4K display. As you cast your eye down the list you can see how capable the Titan is, marrying the Intel Core i7-7820HK with two GTX 1070 GPUs and some blazing fast storage. Normally when we're looking down specifications you stop reading about half way once the main players have been described, but snuck in at the bottom is 2x230W AC Adaptors. Huh?

I am very surprise by the benchmarks of this review

I have a laptop msi titan gt80s with 2 gtx980 desktop and my results are much higher (gpu and CPU oc)

18500 Firestrike
121 FPS unigine valley 1080p ultra 8xaa
126 FPS unigine heaven 1080p ultra 8xaa
65 FPS Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands 1080P ultra settings

Despite a SLI GTX1070, the MSI GT73VR runs like an old car....Quote
