Iiyama releases their ProLite XB2779QQS 5K FreeSync display

Iiyama new 5K ProLite XB2779QQS has hit the market, offering a 4x resolution increase over 1440p displays and a 7.11x increase in pixel count over 1080p.

The ProLite XB2779QQS uses an IPS panel and can offer a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz over DisplayPort 1.4 and a G2G response time of 4ms. Iiyama has listed this monitor with support for AMD FreeSync, though at this time the display’s FreeSync/VRR range is unknown.

Looking at this panels specifications, it is clear that this monitor has more than a few downsides, with its 6-bit+FRC colour support giving it lower colour depth than many of today’s “Professional-grade” displays. Alongside this monitor’s dual DisplayPort 1.4 connections are three HDMI 2.0 ports, which support a maximum resolution of 4K at 60Hz. This monitor also comes with some rather large bezels, which may become an annoyance if used in a multi-display setup.

This monitor will ship with VESA 100×100 mount support, with a stock stand which offers tilt, height and swivel adjustments. The monitor also comes with two 2.5W speakers, not that we would ever recommend using them over an external sound setup.

The Iiyama ProLite XB2779QQS is designed to offer users value for money, providing a rare resolution in a standard 27-inch form factor at prices as low as £729.99 in the UK. While this is a lot for a monitor, it must be remembered how niche the market for 5K displays is, especially when compared to 4K and 1440p.
