Quake II RTX Revealed By Nvidia – Q2VKPT Just Got Better

Ray Traced Quake II? That’s so January 2019. Now Nvidia has taken things to the next level, creating what the company calls Quake II RTX, a “substantially-enhanced and upgraded version of Q2VKPT” which offers overhauled visuals, new features and graphics which have never been experienced within the game before.

In their tech demo, Nvidia showcased a dynamic time of day, light shafts, ray-traced lighting/reflections and accurate materials. In the near future, Nvidia plans to bring this version of Quake II back into the open source community, making Quake II RTX available to everyone, allowing the community to tweak and update the game further.

This new version of Quake II was designed with the assistance of the designer behind Q2VKPT, with Nvidia’s version of the game offering improvements to almost every aspect of the game. Before we had raytraced Quake II, but soon we will have Quake II RTX.
