MSI RX 6600 XT Gaming X Review

MSI RX 6600 XT Gaming X Review

Introduction

The newest AMD Radeon graphics card is aimed squarely at the massive population of gamers who use 1920×1080 as their primary resolution. Given how much extra graphical horsepower you require to manage to increase the resolution even up to 1440, much less 4K, it makes perfect business sense to instead aim at those people who are enthusiastic gamers but without a massive budget.

We’ve looked at the ASUS Strix and the XFX MERC 308, next up is the latest addition to the hugely popular Gaming X range of cards from MSI in the form of the RDNA 2 RX 6600 XT.

We’ve already discovered how capable the new card is at 1080P, able to run any game you care to mention as long as you’re not expecting massive ray-tracing performance. We’ve also seen that there is plenty under the hood for you to run at 1440 if you’ve obtained an affordable display. Now it is time to discover how the Gaming X stacks up.

Rather than give you an endless waffle about things you already know, and given how late in the day this arrived in the office, let’s crack on with the important bit, the pictures and results.

Technical Specifications

Being still a tiny bit before the official release MSI are being close-lipped about the clock speed, although all will be revealed in a couple of pages when GPUz unlocks the hidden mysteries of the boost clocks.
