Acer reveals Predator Project DualPlay laptop with detachable controller

ACER Predator’s Project DualPlay integrated a removable gamepad into a Laptop chassis

Acer’s Predator division has officially revealed “Project DualPlay“, a new gaming laptop design that could redefine the portable gaming world. How? It has integrated a removable controller into its frame. This game controller contains built-in speakers and can even be split apart (Switch-style) to give users two smaller controllers.

Acer has stressed that this laptop design is a “concept,” meaning it may never be released as a real-world product. Even so, the idea alone showcases Acer’s willingness to innovate. The laptop even has pop-out speakers on its sides to boost its audio quality further.

What are the downsides of this design? Well, the fact that a full controller needs to fit in this laptop’s frame is a problem. Putting a controller in there gives Acer less space to fit high-end CPUs, GPUs, and their required cooling systems. That could limit this device’s gaming performance and may force Acer to place a smaller battery inside. Adding a normal controller to your backpack isn’t that challenging, so the benefits of this “integrated gamepad” design are limited.

Regardless of the real-world benefits of this laptop design, I love the fact that this now exists. After all, we need crazy ideas to shake things up every now and then. While this isn’t going to shock the PC gaming world like Valve’s Steam Deck, it is something that changes my thoughts on what a gaming laptop could be. I wonder if Acer has considered adding a removable mouse to this laptop.
