RPCS3 hits 99% In-Game compatibility status for PS3 games

RPCS3 approaches 80% playability, with over 99% of PS3 games being “Ingame” or better

The RPCS3 PlayStation 3 (PS3) emulator has surpassed a major milestone. Over 99% of PlayStation 3 games are now classed as either “Playable” or “Ingame”, accounting for the vast majority of the console’s library. Only 31 PS3 games are considered to have “Loadable” or “Intro Status”, which is nothing compared with the over 3500 games that are “Playable” or “Ingame”.

While it is worth noting that online-only games aren’t listed in RPCS3’s statistics (since they can’t work again without active servers), it cannot be overstated how much RPCS3 has improved in 2026. Since January, the emulator’s list of playable games has grown from 2558 to 2823. During that time, the console’s list of loadable games shrank from 101 to 31.

Frequent RPCS3 updates have delivered faster and more accurate emulation. Additionally, direct-access USB Microphone support and PlayStation Move camera and controller support allow new classes of games to become playable.

(Over 99% of PS3 games are either “Playable” or “Ingame”)

Over 79% of PS3 games are playable, and even more games are playable with mods or more powerful PC hardware

Right now, 79.25% of PlayStation 3 games are considered “Playable” on RPCS3. This means you can complete them with playable performance and no game-breaking glitches. For “Ingame” titles, playability ratings can be denied for several reasons, not just game-breaking glitches or graphical glitches. Poor performance can prevent otherwise playable games from becoming officially “Playable” on RPCS3.

The PlayStation 3 is a complex console. No console since has been as complex as the PlayStation 3. This means many PS3 games don’t run well on modern hardware, even with RPCS3’s highly optimised code. To be officially playable on RPCS3, a game needs to achieve PS3-level performance or better on RPCS3’s recommended hardware specifications. Many PS3 games have performance-improving patches for RPCS3 (such as “Disable SPU MLAA” or “Disable in-game MLAA” patches). Many other games are playable using more powerful PC hardware. With game patches or more powerful PC hardware, RPCS3’s list of “Playable” games could be much larger.

For example, a recent RPCS3 update has allowed Insomniac Games’ PS3 Ratchet and Clank games to be played without crashing on RPCS3. Despite this, the games are not considered “Playable” on RPCS3 because of performance issues. On recommended hardware, the PS3’s Ratchet and Clank games do not run at PS3 framerates or higher.

At their current rate of progress, over 80% of PS3 games will likely become “Playable” on RPCS3 before the end of this year. Only 27 more PS3 games need to become playable for RPCS3 to reach the 80% playability mark. For context, 51 games became playable between August and September. RPCS3’s rate of improvement is astounding, and its contributors should be commended for their efforts.
