Patch 6 gives God of War Ragnarok an AMD Ryzen CPU boost
Patch 6 delivers major performance gains for users of older AMD Ryzen CPUs
Patch 6 has been released for God of War Ragnarok, and it has delivered some major improvements to the game on PC, especially for users of AMD Ryzen CPUs. For starters, the game’s tesselation quality has been increased to bring back parity with the game’s PS5 version. Additionally, CPU optimisations will deliver notable performance gains for users of older AMD Ryzen CPUs.
On the topic of tesselation, we reported on this God of War Ragnarok’s poor tesselation performance as part of our original PC Performance Review. Nvidia has reportedly fixed this tesselation performance issue with their GeForce 565.90 and newer GPU drivers. This is an undocumented change for Nvidia’s newer GPU drivers. Perhaps Nvidia did not want to draw more attention to this issue.
For AMD Ryzen (Zen 1 and Zen 2) CPU users, patch 6 delivers higher performance levels in CPU-limited areas. At the base of this article, we have included a video from Zykopath on YouTube. This video highlights an average framerate boost from 56 FPS to 76 FPS in a CPU-limited area with a Ryzen 5 3600X CPU. However, we should not expect any performance gains from Zen 3 or newer AMD CPUs.

With patch 6, God of War Ragnarok now runs better than ever on PC.
