God of War Ragnarok PC Performance Review

Tessellation – Turn this setting down on GeForce

Tesselation – Nvidia users beware!

One of the first things we noticed when playing God of War Ragnarok was that framerates tanked in the Realm between Realms. We were curious why this was the case and found that the game’s tesselation setting has a huge impact on game performance in this area (and some others). Setting Tesselation to Medium gave us a HUGE performance boost in this area.

Below, we can see the performance of this area at 4K Ultra settings on an Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti and Radeon RX 7900 XT. Note that higher tesselation performance doesn’t harm AMD GPU performance as much as Nvidia GPU performance. Regardless, Tessellation has a huge impact on GPU performance in this area.

Honestly, this area is overly tesselated in God of War Ragnarok. Lower tessellation settings have a minimal impact on visuals and are certainly not worth the performance impact of using Tesselation at High or Ultra. For this reason, we recommend that most PC gamers turn this setting down to Medium, especially GeForce GPU users.
