God of War Ragnarok PC Performance Review

1080p Performance

1080p Performance

At Ultra settings, God of War Ragnarok is a demanding game on PC. Thankfully, our Optimised settings can give gamers a handy performance boost (see optimised settings page). If more performance is required, setting the game to medium can have larger performance benefits.

Thankfully, at Ultra, even older GPUs like Nvidia’s RTX 200 SUPER can deliver average framerates of over 60 FPS at 1080p. That said, framerates are highly variable in God of War Ragnarok, which means that this GPU can spend a lot of time at sub-50 FPS framerates in demanding areas. This is where DLSS and some setting tweaks can step in to stabilise this game’s framerates. Wih the right tweaks, even Nvidia’s RTX 2060 can deliver an excellent experience in God of War Ragnarok.

God of War Ragnarok’s variable framerates begs PC gamers to use a Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) gaming display. This is especially true for GPUs like Nvidia’s RTX 2060. With Optimised Settings and DLSS in Balanced mode, this lower-end GPU can see its average framerates increase by almost 50%. Add on AMD’s FSR Frame Generation tech, and we have framerates of between 70 and 104 FPS. Ideal for a variable refresh rate 1080p monitor. We were quite happy with this experience. But if you dislike Frame Generation, this game’s Medium preset will deliver another healthy performance boost.
