Gamers use Leaked AMD FSR 4 source code to enable FSR 4 on RX 7000 and RTX 30 series GPUs

Gamers use leaked AMD source code to make FSR 4 work on older AMD and Nvidia GPUs

AMD’s FSR 4 upscaler is only usable on AMD’s RDNA 4 graphics cards. That means PC gamers need the RX 9000 series (RDNA 4) graphics cards to utilise AMD’s new AI upscaler. However, modders have been able to work around this limitation, using leaked AMD FSR 4 source code to enable support on older graphics cards. This includes AMD’s RX 7000 series GPUs, and Nvidia’s RTX 30 series GPUs.

How did this happen? AMD, unintentionally, released an INT8 (8-bit Integer) version of FSR 4 alongside its FidelityFX SDK 2.0. AMD quickly removed these files, but not before backups of these files were made. Using these files, the Reddit community has compiled a new FSR 4 DLL, making it possible to use FSR 4 on non-RDNA 4 GPUs.

Based on user reports, this new version of FSR 4 delivers stronger visual results than FSR 3.1. However, it is worth noting that FSR 4 runs slower than FSR 3. Below, Bedony FPS reports a 7% performance delta. Furthermore, some users have pointed out graphical artefacts and aliasing in some games. Clearly, there’s a reason why AMD has not launched FSR 4 for non-RDNA 4 GPUs, yet.

Gamers have successfully enabled AMD’s FSR 4 upscaler to work on both RX 7000 series GPUs and RTX 30/40 series GPUs. While this upscaler is not without issues, it highlights how bringing FSR 4 to RDNA 3 graphics cards is possible for AMD.
