Steam Machine fans have already made “GabeCube” startup animations for the device

Valve fans have already created the perfect Steam Machine intro

Valve unveiled its new “Steam Machine” mini PC this week, and fans are already thinking about how they can customise the machine. Valve’s Steam Deck has proven incredibly popular amongst modders, both from a hardware and software perspective. The Steam Machine should share this customisability. Fans of Valve’s new Steam Machine have already started creating custom startup animations for the device, including the one below, known as the “GabeCube” intro.

Why GabeCube? The answer is simple, it looks like a GameCube and Gabe Newell (GabeN) Valve’s President. That’s how the Steam Machine became known as the “GabeCube”. It’s pretty simple, really. It didn’t take long for Valve fans to turn this meme into a usable startup animation for the device. It’s a strange mix of nostalgia for both the GameCube and Valve’s classic games.

Changing the Steam Machine’s startup animation should be a simple process. The process will likely be identical to Valve’s Steam Deck, or close to it. You can bet that a lot of early Steam Machine users will use this exact startup video. It’s just too perfect for this cube-shaped mini PC. That said, someone needs to find a way to give this thing a Companion Cube-style shell. That’s a mod that has to happen!
