Makera Z1 smashes its Kickstarter targets with £5 million pledged
Makera’s Z1 is ready to kickstart an at-home CNC revolution
The Makera Z1 has surpassed all of our expectations on Kickstarter, having just achieved over £5 million in funding. The machine has far exceeded its initial funding targets and has exceeded all the campaign’s stretch goals, giving Kickstarter backers an extra set of MDF spoilboards and a 3D probe rod upgrade.
For the uninitiated, the Makera Z1 is a desktop CNC machine that delivers pro-level machining power at an affordable price. The machine lowers the barrier to entry for CNC machining with its affordable price. At launch, the machine will have an MSRP of $1,199, but on Kickstarter, buyers can get it for $899. Early deliveries for the machine will be in January 2026.
With a footprint of 350 x 470 x 450 mm, this machine is compact. The machine also weighs only 17kg, making it easy to place on a desk within a home, classroom, or studio. It also supports materials including aluminium, brass, wood, PCB, Acrylic, and carbon fibre. For “light-duty milling” steel and titanium are also supported.
Makera is making budget CNC machines work
Until now, budget-oriented CNC machines have felt cheap and risky. They often have poor software, and are far too complex for new users. Makera aims to change that with its Makera Studio software, Makerables design library, and AI-powered workflow. Makera plans to do to CNC machining what has already happened to 3D printing and laser cutting.
Early users have already reported great results with early Makera Z1 prototypes. Hacksmith Industries called the machine a “game-changer for entry-level makers”.

Z1 Desktop CNC Specifications
The Z1 has a cutting area of 200 x 200mm and a working depth of 100mm. The machine has a 150W spindle with spindle speeds of 13,000 RPM. This makes the Makera Z1 larger than Makera’s Carvera Air machine. The machine can be used to machine Aluminium, brass, copper, wood, PCBs, acrylic, and carbon fiber. The machine also supports automatic probing and levelling and features a Quick Tool Change system.
With its built-in camera, Z1 users can monitor machining progress in real time. The machine also features a time-lapse video function, allowing you to analyse and share your creation process. With accessories, the Z1 Desktop CNC supports 4-axis machining, laser cutting/engraving, and dust/chip collection.
There’s still more than two weeks to go before the Makera Z1 Kickstarter ends. To learn more about the machine, you can look at its Kickstarter page here.
