Demon’s Souls jumps from 1 FPS to 30 FPS on PC in weeks on PS5 Emulator

Demon’s Souls Remake now runs at 30 FPS on the KyTyPS5 PlayStation 5 Emulator

It has been a big week for the PlayStation 5 emulation scene. In a week, the KyTyPS5 has moved from running Demon’s Souls at 1 FPS on PC to 30 FPS. In a new video from PSXTech, the game runs at an unstable 30 FPS. While performance dips can still occur in demanding areas, the game is running on PC.

PSXTech has not revealed the PC hardware used to run Demon’s Souls’ PS5 Remake on PC. Regardless, running at this level of performance is an achievement. I certainly wasn’t expecting PS5 emulation to reach this stage anytime soon.

While Demon’s Souls now runs on PC, the game isn’t playable in its current state. Frame-pacing problems are visible in the video below, and unstable performance will give PC players a subpar gaming experience. Furthermore, the build of KyTy PS5 used in the video below is not publicly available, which means that most PC gamers will not be able to replicate these results, at least not yet.

Sony has decided to abandon PC, so they can expect growing interest in PS5-to-PC emulation

PlayStation PC is dead. Sony has made it clear that it has no plans to release its new single-player PlayStation exclusives on PC. Despite having some highly successful PC releases, Sony’s overall PC sales weren’t strong enough for PlayStation to continue the project.

Instead of ensuring its PC versions were consistently high quality, keeping PC launches close enough to their PS5 counterparts to be relevant, or stopping the forced PSN integrations sooner, Sony abandoned PC. Now, plenty of PC gamers want to play PlayStation games on their PC, and Sony isn’t catering to that demand anymore. For this reason, it is unsurprising that demand for PS5 emulation has increased. This is especially true today because of Sony’s recent PS5 price increases.

Sony has no plans to bring Demon’s Souls to PC. They shut down Bluepoint, the developer behind the remake, and have exited the PC games market; at least for its big single-player titles. With Sony ditching the PC gaming market and GTA 6 being console-only at launch, demand for strong PS5-to-PC emulation is high. If KyTyPS5 continues to improve at its current pace, it is possible that GTA 6 will be playable on PC before Rockstar releases its official PC version.
